About the artist, Mark Parisi
Mark was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The attending physician mentioned seeing doodles on the uterus wall, but this remains unconfirmed. With a graphic design degree from Salem State University, Mark felt he had two marketable skills: cartooning and grocery bagging. He decided to go with cartooning, even though it didn't pay as well. With influences including Charles Schulz, MAD Magazine and Gary Larson, he began self-syndicating his Off the Mark comic panel in 1987 and it is currently syndicated nationally by Andrews McMeel.
The National Cartoonists Society named Off the Mark as Best in Newspaper Panels in 2008, 2011, 2017, 2020, and Best in Greeting Cards in 2013. Mark also won a greeting card Louie Award in 2022. Mark's cards are published by Recycled Paper Greetings, American Greetings, Oatmeal Studios, and NobleWorks, among others.
Parisi is also the author and illustrator of the humorous middle-grade book series, Marty Pants with HarperCollins. Dav Pilkey called them, “Clever, fast-paced and hilarious!” Parisi also has an upcoming HC book, The Truth about 5th Grade (with co-author Kim Tomsic) due out in 2023.
Mark's work can also be found on calendars, T-shirts, mugs, and more. Clients have included Del Monte, Procter & Gamble, Topps, the US Military (anti-binge drinking campaign), Billboard Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Woman's World, The National Enquirer, Dixie Chicks, Weird Al Yankovic, and Chicken Soup for the Soul.
Mark lives in New England, has an adult daughter, and is currently covered in cat hair.
